Hope Assistance

The Lions

Welcome to the Lions’ Den at Tomorrow’s Hope Preschool!  My name is Carolyn Kim, and I will be your child’s teacher for the 2010-2011 school year.  Paula Gleason will be working with me in the Lions classroom as the assistant teacher.  Paula and I have been working hard to prepare the classroom, and we are very excited for this wonderful school year to begin!

Preschool is an important and exciting milestone in the life of your child.  For many children, preschool is their first school experience.  It is a time of wonder, exploration, and growth.  In the Lions classroom, Paula and I will foster your child’s development as he/she grows mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

An orientation for you and your child is scheduled for Friday, September 10 at 9:30.  While you meet with Ms. Heather in the worship space, your child will become acquainted with his/her classroom, teachers, and classmates.  At orientation, Ms. Heather will go over many important school procedures and policies with you.  I will quickly review a few of these policies with you now.

Snack:  At orientation, I will give each parent a copy of the snack calendar for the first month of school.  On your child’s assigned day, please supply a healthy, peanut-free snack and a bottle of clear juice (apple, white grape) for the class.  There are only 10 students in the class so please try to send in an appropriate amount of snack and drink.  Some snack ideas are:  goldfish crackers, fruit (apple slices or grapes), pretzels, pudding, yogurt, and applesauce.  Kindly send in any paper products that are needed for the children to enjoy the snack, such as napkins, paper plates, or spoons.  Please remember that Tomorrow’s Hope Preschool is a peanut-free facility and refrain from sending in snacks that contain or are produced/processed with peanuts, nuts, and/or peanut butter.  Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring the health and safety of our students.

Supplies:  As we prepare for the school year, we are asking parents to kindly help supply our classroom with the following items:

ü A complete change of clothes for your child, clearly labeled in a large ziplock bag

ü A roll of paper towels

ü A container or refill of baby wipes

ü A box of small plastic cups

Thank you for helping us keep our classroom clean and organized.

Many parents have asked if the children need a backpack for school.  The children do not need a backpack for preschool.  However, we understand that many children are very excited for school and a owning a backpack is big part of the fun and excitement of going to school.  If you do decide to have your child bring a backpack to school to carry home art projects and papers, please supply your child with a small backpack without wheels.

Lunch Buddy:  All children are welcome to participate in our lunch buddy program which runs from 12-1 each day beginning on September 29. The children bring a lunch from home and for a $5 fee can stay for the remaining hour to eat and participate in supervised free play.  On Wednesdays, we offer Pizza Day – for $8 the children can have pizza, juice and a light snack.

Birthdays:  Birthdays are very special days in the Lions classroom.  On your child’s birthday, please send in a special, peanut-free birthday snack.  Please send in a snack that is single-serve and does not require cutting (ex., cupcakes, donut holes, muffins).  Unfortunately, we are unable to light candles at school.  In the event that your child’s birthday falls during the summer months, then we will celebrate your child’s half birthday.  For example, if your child’s birthday is on July 15, then we will celebrate his/her half birthday on January 15.

Paula and I look forward to meeting you and your child at orientation on September 10.  If you have any questions or concerns about the school and the 4 year old program, please feel free to contact me via email at carolyn@tomorrowshopepreschool.org.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Kim
